Dalit Youth Stripped & Beaten In Chhattisgarh's Sakti District

Raipur/Sakti: Once more a Dalit youth has been stripped naked and beaten black and blue publicly. This time the Dalit atrocity issue has erupted in Chhattisgarh's Sakti district. The human right activists and the opposition parties questioned the so-called narrative of good governance in the state in the light of increasing atrocities against Dalit and Adivasi.

It has been reported, the guy of Devgaon village who had an affair with a girl reached her village Bade Raveli to meet her. The village men of his girlfriend somehow get an air about his affair and he was caught. The village men detained him for the whole night and brutally tortured and on the second day he was taken to the Chowk of the village. He was forcefully stripped in the public and tormentors beat him black and blue. The whole horrific incident was also shot by some villagers on their phone and later on circulated on social media.

The matter got highlighted when the video of the victim went viral on social media. The incident reportedly occurred in Malkharauda Police Station on the night of April 9, of Shakti District.

Later on the injured youth was admitted to Raigarh Medical College for treatment. It has been reported he received some serious injuries.

Meanwhile, SDOP Manish Kunwar told the local reporters the police had received information about the incident through media and probing it. The police will further initiate action as per the law after recording the statement of the victim youth, the officer said.

However, on the whole incident, Social Activist Devendra Dalit Adivasi Manch said, it is disheartening that such disheartening incident is occurring when a tribal is leading the state as Chief Minister. We demand a higher level probe in the matter so justice could prevail.

Meanwhile, Congress Party Spokesperson Sanjay Singh Thakur, occurrence of heinous offences that brutal rape and murder of minor, stripping and beating of a Dalit Youth in public, escalating crime graph against women and weaker sections of people, escalating corruption and satta in the state indicate total breakdown of law and order. Either, the Sai government should quit on moral grounds or the Apex Court of India should dismiss the government, if only such a common people's faith in the system will remain intact, Thakur said.
