She was born in London and raised in New Delhi and completed her schooling at the Jesus and Mary Convent School in the city. She later moved to the United States for higher education. She earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from San Francisco State University and did her Master of Science in Engineering Management from Santa Clara University.

Jayshree joined Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), where she learnt insights of the tech industry. She then worked for four years at Ungermann-Bass before joining Crescendo Communications. Her career took a major turn when Crescendo was acquired by Cisco Systems, where she served for 15 years and reached up to the top positions within the company.

In 2008, Ullal joined Arista Networks, which was a small company with just 50 employees. It was not earning any revenue at the time. Under her leadership, Arista grew and went public in 2014, and by 2020, its revenue had reached $2.3 billion. Today, Arista Networks has a market capitalization of Rs 3.4 lakh crore.

Jayshree also joined the board of Snowflake, a cloud-based data warehousing company, in 2020.
