This route is referred to as the backbone of Indian Railways. Not only that, but the tracks on this route are also suitable for running trains at the highest speed. The length of this route is about 440 km, and the Vande Bharat train covers this distance in just 4 hours and 08 minutes. This means the average speed of Vande Bharat on this route exceeds 100 km per hour.
The route we are talking about is called the New Delhi-Kanpur Central route. It is part of the Delhi-Howrah line. According to the railways, the busiest routes in the country are from Delhi to Howrah and Delhi to Mumbai. The maximum number of trains runs on these routes, but the most trains operate for the city of Kanpur on the Howrah route. A total of 88 trains operate between the capital city of Delhi and Kanpur. However, this includes trains that run one, two, and three days a week. If we talk about daily running trains, this number is 57.
Vande Bharat, Shatabdi, Rajdhani, and Gatimaan, all categories of trains are included in the trains running on the New Delhi-Kanpur route. All the trains heading east depart from Delhi’s three major stations, New Delhi, Anand Vihar, and Old Delhi. Among the daily running trains, the highest number, 29 trains, operate from New Delhi station. In second place, 17 trains operate from Anand Vihar, while the least number of trains run from Old Delhi. Most of these trains continue to Kanpur Central.
This is the most crucial route for connecting Eastern India with the capital, including West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Northeast India, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, and some areas of Madhya Pradesh. Kanpur Central is a station where over 400 trains stop every day. It has a total of 10 platforms, making it one of the busiest stations in the country in terms of train stoppages.
