Chandigarh gym trainer faces rape charges

Fast Track Special Court, Chandigarh, on Friday framed charges against a gym trainer, Sawan Bhatti, in a rape case registered in Sector 11 Police Station last year.

This is the second case in which rape charges were framed against the accused.

The police registered the FIR on June 10, 2024, at Police Station 11, Chandigarh, under Sections 354, 354A, 376, 392, 506 of the IPC on the complaint of a girl student.

In her complaint, She said: “She is a student and has been residing in Chandigarh for the last five years. On the night of June 06, 2024, at around 12:15 am, an unknown person was standing outside on a road and asked about a house in Sector 15, Chandigarh. He also asked her to check the location of the house on her phone. After telling him the location of the house, he asked for a glass of water. He asked for help and asked her to accompany him to the house, on which she agreed."

While they were going on foot, he insisted on coming on his Activa. Initially, she denied, but later she sat behind him on his Activa.

The unknown person took the scooter towards the underpass in Sector 11, Chandigarh.

The accused threatened her to kill her and asked her to sit quietly on his Activa. He then took his Activa towards Sector 11 and started roaming in the lanes of Sector 11. In between the lanes of the houses, he stopped his Activa and threatened her to sit down and took the gold ring and earrings that she was wearing.

Thereafter, he sexually assaulted her.

After threatening her not to disclose the incident to anyone, the accused ran away from the spot on his Activa.

She then called her friend and informed him about the entire incident, who came to the spot and took her in his car to a room in Sector 15.

Her friend called the police and later she recorded her statement with the police. During the investigation on identification of the complainant accused Sawan Bhatti was arrested.

Police claimed that the snatched gold articles were also recovered from the accused.

Police claimed that the accused has committed similar acts before and sexually assaulted a young woman in a park in Sector 16, Chandigarh. The police claimed that the accused was working as a Gym trainer and used to target women when he found them alone.
