Sub-inspector arrested for taking Rs1 lakh bribe
A team from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Ambala arrested a sub-inspector of Kaithal police for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a complainant. The accused has been identified as Manbir Singh, who was posted in the Economic Offences Wing of Kaithal police. He was apprehended from his residence in Anandpur West Bihar Colony, near Mata Gate Temple, Kaithal, on charges of corruption.
A case has been registered against him under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, at the ACB Police Station in Ambala. According to the complaint submitted by a woman to ACB Ambala, her father is an accused in a case registered under Sections 406, 420, and 506 of the Indian Penal Code at Rajound Police Station, Kaithal. Sub-Inspector Manbir Singh was handling the investigation in this case, as per a police spokesperson.
In addition to the bribery charges, Section 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, has also been invoked against the accused for allegedly molesting the complainant during the course of the incident, the spokesperson added. During the operation, the accused summoned the complainant to Civil Hospital in Kaithal to hand over the money. He arrived in his private vehicle and, while seated inside, allegedly asked the complainant to pass the cash. On sensing the presence of the ACB team in the vicinity, the accused fled the spot. However, he was later arrested by the ACB from his residence in Kaithal.
