Today, if an actor is offered a role in a film starring the ‘Khans’, it is a hard pass. Everyone wishes to to get the opportunity to work with Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan or Aamir Khan for their craft and ofcourse owing to the stardom and aura these actors carry. However, exceptions always exist. There is one actress who refused to to being cast opposite Salman Khan not once but atleast twice. And both the movies went on to become blockbusters.
The actress once revealed why she avoided working with the three Khans however, until then, had claimed to have shared a cordial relation with Salman. She herself can be accredited for serving the audience with superhit movies and some cult classic songs too. Now, she has ventured into politics as well. Her name is Kangana Ranaut.
Actress Who Rejected ‘Sultan’
Kangana Ranuat carries an apologetic demeanour where she speaks her mind without hesitating or opting for diplomacy. She has been called out for her irrational comments at times as well.
In an old interview Ranaut had revealed that she rejected Salman Khan’s movies -‘Sultan’ and ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan.’ Yes, you read that right. The actress not only rejected these films but also expressed her inhibition about how heroines roles get relegated to shadow or just few scenes over the aura of these stars.
She had said, “Salman offered me a role in Bajrangi Bhaijaan, I was like ‘Yeh kya role diya hai?’ (what is this role?). He then approached me for Sultan. I didn’t take that up. He was like, ‘What more do I offer to you now?,’” speaking with Siddharth Kannan. Adding on to her comments she also shared how despite her refusal, Salman Khan never mistreated her rather only extended love and support towards her films. Eventually, Anushka Sharma was cast opposite Khan in ‘Sultan’ while Kareena Kapoor played his love interest in ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’.
The ‘Emergency’ actress has tried out versatile characters and entertained the audience. In an interview swith Raj Shamani she shared her reason to not follow a template of character when it comes to all the A-listers. “I refused Khan-led films. All Khans are very nice to me, they are very kind to me, and they have never misbehaved with me. Yes, there are people who have misbehaved with me but Khans were not one of them. But I said no to their films because their films are prototypes wherein the heroine will have two scenes and one song. So I said I don’t want to do that. I want to be an example of a woman who is an A-lister, the top-most actor who has not worked with Khans,” Kangana said.
Kangana Ranaut is currently serving as Member of Lok Sabha from Mandi seat in Himachal Pradesh.
