Tahawwur Rana lands in Delhi, NIA to arrest 26/11 accused soon

Tahawwur Rana

Tahawwur Rana, one of the key accused in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, arrived at Delhi airport on Thursday afternoon. The extradited terrorist was brought in a special plane from the US.

Rana's flight landed at Palam technical area in Delhi around 2.50 pm. The NIA is set to arrest him soon.

Reports said that the Third Battalion of the Delhi Police would be transporting Rana to the NIA headquarters. He will be lodged at Tihar Jail, where security has been beefed up ahead of his arrival.

The terrorist will be presented at a special NIA court on Friday, following which he will be interrogated by sleuths. The extradition come after Rana's attempts to evade extradition failed as the US Supreme Court justices dismissed his application.

Responding to Rana's extradition, the Pakistan foreign office said he was a Canadian national and has not renewed his Pakistani documents in the last two decades. Rana is a close associate of David Coleman Headly aka Daood Gilani, who is one of the key conspirators in the Mumbai terror attacks.

Consul General of Israel to Midwest India Kobbi Shoshani, said Rana's extradition is a big victory for India's diplomacy. "We have to bring terrorists or people who are suspected of being terrorists to justice... 3 days of horrible nights and days in Mumbai; we will not forget what's happened in Nariman House, in the rest of the places..." he said.
