The new model has been introduced as an entry-level option. It does not require license or registration. Its top speed is less than 25 kmph. Rio 80 has a color LCD display, LFP battery technology, front disc brake and keyless start functionality. It provides a range of 80 km on a single charge. It comes in wheel, red, blue and white color options with alloy wheels.

According to company officials, its delivery will start across India this month. K Vijay Kumar, Executive Director and CEO of Greaves Electric Mobility, said that this launch is in line with the company’s vision to make electric mobility more accessible across India.

The electric scooter market in India is growing steadily as customers look for affordable alternatives to conventional fuel-powered vehicles amid rising fuel prices and environmental concerns. Low-speed electric scooters like the Reo 80 have gained popularity especially among first-time riders, students and elderly customers for short-distance urban commuting.

Greaves Electric Mobility has recorded significant growth in recent months. Sales have reached over 6,000 electric two-wheelers in March 2025, representing a 52% month-on-month growth, according to Vahan data. GEML’s parent company Greaves Cotton Limited is diversifying from its traditional engineering roots into the electric mobility sector as part of its business transformation strategy. With a 165-year history, the company has evolved from manufacturing single-cylinder diesel engines to become a multi-product mobility solution provider.
