VIDEO: Scuffle Breaks Out Between Lone AAP MLA Mehraaj Malik And BJP Legislators In J&K Assembly

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir assembly witnessed a high-voltage drama on Wednesday after a scuffle broke out between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Mehraaj Malik. The altercation broke out over the demand for a discussion on the Waqf Amendment Act.

The dramatic visuals of the scuffle also surfaced online. The assembly was suspended for three hours after the incident. It was for the third consecutive day that the assembly witnessed an uproar over the Waqf Act, which was cleared by both Houses of Parliament last week.

Soon after the House was adjourned, Malik was first involved in a verbal spat with People's Democratic Party (PDP) workers over his remarks against Mufti Mohammed Sayeed. PDP workers lashed out at him for his use of alleged derogatory language against Sayeed. Security personnel deployed for the Assembly's security prevented a physical clash between the AAP MLA and PDP workers.

Malik then made remarks against the BJP, which did not go down well with the MLAs of the saffron party. BJP MLAs led by Vikram Randhawa and Yudhvir Sethi were involved in a scuffle with the AAP MLA.

In the commotion, Malik fell on a table which broke while the shirt of a BJP MLA was torn in the clash with him, reported PTI.

Scuffle Between AAP MLA And BJP Legislators:

Malik was then escorted into the House by the Watch and Ward staff, accompanied by NC members. BJP members tried to charge at him again when he was being taken into the House but were held back after the intervention of some National Conference (NC) members.

The BJP accused Malik of abusing Hindus. "He has abused Hindus... We will not tolerate this... He has said 'Hindu tilak laga ke paap karta hai'... We will give him an answer," BJP MLA Vikram Randhawa as reported by The Times of India.

The Assembly witnessed back-to-back full-day adjournments for the last two days on the Waqf issue after Speaker Abdul Rahim Lather disallowed an adjournment motion moved by some NC members and their alliance partners on Monday when the House met after a recess of 12 days, citing sub-judice rule.

When the House met on Wednesday morning, the NC members once again trooped near the Well to demand adjournment of business to discuss the Waqf issue while BJP's Balwant Singh Mankotia moved an adjournment motion to discuss the problem of unemployment.
