Individuals are said to be made of their circumstances and experiences. It can either make you or break you. How one chooses to be is what helps them pave their own path to success and glory. This is one such story of an Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer who underwent a childhood riddled with struggles but did not let him deter him from pursuing success. Infact, it only added on to his will to achieve his target.
This is another success story that began from a nook of a village called Mahagaon in Maharashtra’s Solapur district. It is the story of IAS officer Ramesh Gholap.
Journey of IAS Officer Ramesh Gholap
Ramesh or Ramu, as admirably called by his family, was a studious student who was mostly in good books of his teachers. His father worked at a cycle repair shop but deteriorating health prevented him from earning. Therefore, his mother had to resort to selling bangles and afford food for their family.
As a kid, Ramesh’s left leg was also affected because of polio. Despite all the ordeals that life threw his way, he was determined to make something good and aimed high to bring change in lives of people. As a teenager, he lost his father at a time when he was preparing for his UPSC examination.
In order to study and concentrate, he used to live far from home. Owing to poor financial status, Ghopal was unable to afford a bus ticket to attend his father’s funeral even. Taking helping from some people in the village, he manage to reach. Despite the irreparable loss, he appeared for his exams and secured around 88.5 percent. He was unable to clear his first attempt in 2010.
Surrounded by poverty and having experienced it first-hand, Ramesh wanted to change the system. He gave his first attempt in 2010 but didn’t clear it. In 2012, he gave the exam his all and cleared it with a rank of 287. He had achieved his IAS dream.
