Sudden Power Surge Causes Destruction In Karnataka Village; Dramatic Video Goes Viral

A sudden strong storm and high-speed winds caused devastation in Jalibenchi village, located in Surpur Taluka of Karnataka's Yadgir district. The powerful winds brought down main power lines, leading to a massive short circuit and triggering panic in the village due to the risk of fires breaking out in several homes.

A horrific video of the incident has surfaced on social media, showing terrifying sparks erupting from an electricity pole.

According to reports, two people were injured in the accident, and over 100 houses suffered damage, with electronic appliances like TVs, refrigerators, and fans getting burned out. The mishap is said to have originated from an old transformer pole near the Mallikarjun Temple.

According to local reports, an old transformer (TC) near the Mallikarjuna Temple in the village supplies electricity to nearly half the houses.

The electrical wires connecting the TC to the pole had been frayed for years. Despite repeated requests from villagers to replace them, no action was taken. These worn-out wires were loosely connected, which led to a short circuit. The resulting disaster spread through the poles connected to multiple houses, creating panic as fire and sparks appeared across the village.

Several electrical wires fell to the ground, prompting many residents to rush out of their homes in fear. Two people sustained minor injuries, but no casualties have been reported.

Hundreds of homes suffered damage, with TVs, fans, air coolers, refrigerators, and batteries getting burned out. Villagers estimate the total loss to be over ₹1 crore. Upon learning of the incident, the GESCOM department promptly disconnected the electricity supply and began repair work.
