Bhopal Cops Told To Use Tin Boxes For Storing Criminal Evidence Like Drugs, Weapons In 'Malkhana'

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The contraband and other material seized from criminals along with evidences of murders and other heinous crimes will now be kept in a strong tin box in ‘malkhana’ of district court.

The initiative is aimed at better preservation of evidences and samples collected from crime spots along with seizures made from criminals.

On the directives of senior police officials, all police stations have been provided with three tin boxes, which will be used for preserving evidence and seized material for submission in court.

“Police usually seal packets of marijuana or other items in plastic boxes or bags, which are not durable. In instances where cases are on a trial for a long period of time, the evidence and seizures get destroyed due to different reasons,” a police official said.

A sub inspector said that keeping seized goods, sealed evidences and samples safe from rats was a big challenge. “Much of the seized material deposited in ‘malkhana’ gets destroyed if kept for a long time,” he added. On Tuesday, cops from all police stations collected tin canisters from police commissionerate office. At present, three boxes have been given to all police stations and more will be provided as per requirement.

Police commissioner Harinarayanachari Mishra said strong tin boxes were provided for better preservation of seized goods and evidences collected during investigation of criminal cases.
