WATCH: LSG’s Digvesh Rathi FINED by BCCI after repeating controversial celebration against KKR in IPL 2025
New Delhi: Lucknow Super Giants bowler Digvesh Rathi, previously fined by the BCCI for a similar action, again performed his on-field celebration after dismissing Sunil Narine during an IPL 2025 match against Kolkata Knight Riders. This time, he mimicked writing on the ground, a variation of his usual notebook-style celebration. Rathi’s earlier celebration, following the dismissal of Priyansh Arya, had already resulted in two separate fines.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) posted a strong 238/3 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their IPL 2025 match, thanks to impressive innings of 87 not out from Nicholas Pooran and 81 from Mitchell Marsh. This score represents LSG’s second-highest ever total in a 20-over match.
Marsh and Markram’s strong opening partnership effectively countered KKR’s power-play strategy. Vaibhav Arora, despite recent praise as a power-play bowler, found it difficult to dismiss the opening batsmen.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) enjoyed a strong start to their innings, reaching 59 runs without losing a wicket in the powerplay. While the first over was economical, Spencer Johnson conceded several boundaries to Marsh and Markram, significantly contributing to LSG’s quick score.
Despite the introduction of Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy, Marsh and Markram continued their strong batting performance, scoring 38 runs from the four overs bowled by the spinners. Markram’s impressive 47-run innings ended when Harshit Rana dismissed him with a well-executed off-cutter. The opening partnership totaled 99 runs.
Nicholas Pooran’s aggressive batting immediately impacted the Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) innings. He successfully countered Sunil Narine, a bowler who had previously been a significant challenge for him, hitting consecutive sixes to bolster LSG’s score and overcome a personal statistical hurdle.
In the match, Marsh achieved his fourth fifty in five innings, equaling the record held by prominent players such as Warner, Kohli, and Gayle. He scored 81 runs before being dismissed, contributing significantly to a 71-run partnership. Pooran also performed exceptionally well, reaching his half-century in just 21 balls.
Pooran’s aggressive batting concluded Lucknow Super Giants’ innings, culminating in an 87-run, 36-ball performance that included eight sixes – his highest IPL score to date. This followed strong contributions from Mitchell Marsh (81 runs off 48 balls) and Aiden Markram (47 runs off 28 balls), resulting in LSG’s highest ever innings total.
KKR’s bowlers had a poor performance, with Johnson, Rana, Narine, and Russell conceding runs at an average of 15.33, 12.75, 12.66, and 16 runs per over respectively.
