Rohan Bopanna scripts HISTORY, becomes first player to reach THIS milestone
Veteran Indian tennis player Rohan Bopanna and his American doubles partner, Ben Shelton, advanced to the Monte Carlo Masters Round of 32, defeating Francisco Cerundolo and Alejandro Tabilo. Bopanna’s continued success highlights his sustained performance at a high level.
Unseeded doubles team Rohan Bopanna and Ramkumar Ramanathan defeated their opponents in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5, on April 6th. They will play Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori of Italy in the Round of 16 on April 8th.
Rohan Bopanna, at 45 years and one month old, created history by winning an ATP 1000 match. This makes him the oldest player ever to win such a match, in either singles or doubles, and the first to do so after turning 45. His victory was particularly notable as his partner, Sheldon, is 22 years old, a significant age difference of 23 years.
Canadian Daniel Nestor previously held the record for oldest ATP doubles winner, at 44 years and 8 months. He achieved this in 2017 at the Madrid Masters, partnering with Fabrice Martin to defeat Rohan Bopanna and Pablo Cuevas.
