Trained commandos to curb cybercrime in state

With the aim to curb rising cybercrime in the state, the police are set to deploy newly trained cyber commandos across the state. These cyber commandos have been trained in various premier institutes of the country under the prestigious cyber commando training programme organised by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C).

At present, four cyber commandos, including two women personnel, have returned after completing a six- month cyber commando training programme in Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The cyber commandos include two women personnel named Manu and Madhu Sharma and two men named Akash Thakur and Ram Sharma.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) State CID Cybercrime Mohit Chawla said that these cyber commandos will use their expertise to curb and prevent cybercrimes and will also engaged in ethical hacking and protecting the datas.

He said that at first a batch of 10 cyber commando will soon report in Shimla who will be sent across the state. Another batch of 29 cyber commandos will report in the future.

The DIG said that as many as 29 personnel of Himachal Pradesh Police had qualified the cyber commando test, an exam through which police personnel are selected for the cyber commando training programme.

As many as 3,093 police personnel from across the state had appeared in this national-level exam conducted by the Ministry of Home Affairs earlier this year.

The cyber commando training programme is an initiative of the Central government to combat cyber related crime and to bolster national security. Under this programme, police personnel are trained to be cyber commandos to deal with various type of cybercrimes.
