On January 16, at around 2:00 AM, an unidentified intruder allegedly entered the Bandra West residence of 54-year-old actor Saif Ali Khan with the intention of theft. The actor's residence occupies the 11th and 12th floors of Satguru Sharan, located at the junction of 24th and 25th Road, in front of the Grand Residency Hotel, near St. Theresa School, Bandra West.
The intruder entered the bathroom on the 11th floor, which is attached to the room of Saif Ali Khan's four-year-old son, Jahangir (Jeh), reportedly with the intent to steal. The accused attacked Jeh's nanny. After hearing the commotion, Saif Ali Khan rushed to his son's room and reportedly tried to restrain the intruder with both hands.
However, the intruder managed to stab him six times in the neck with a sharp weapon, weakening Saif’s grip. Saif and others then exited the room and locked it from inside the flat. Nevertheless, the accused managed to flee the same way he had entered. The actor was severely injured in the attack and was admitted to Lilavati Hospital.
On January 19, the police arrested the accused. The investigation revealed that Shariful Islam is a Bangladeshi citizen. It was further found that his motive was purely theft and that he was unaware the house belonged to a well-known actor.
