Congo coup trio flown back to US to serve life sentences after death penalty lifted
Three American citizens, involved in a failed coup in Congo, are back in the United States. They will now serve life sentences. Congolese authorities commuted their death sentences. Marcel Malanga, Tyler Thompson Jr., and Benjamin Reuben Zalman-Polun were repatriated. The transfer was coordinated with the U.S. Embassy. Discussions are underway for a significant minerals agreement between Washington and Kinshasa.
