Six injured in firing over land at Chankoin Khurd village
Six persons, including two women, were reportedly injured in a firing incident which took place at Chankoin Khurd village this evening. The injured have been admitted to CMC Hospital, Ludhiana, while the police are in the process of recording the statements of the injured to proceed further in the case.
According to sources, the attackers came in four cars and on five-six bikes, armed with guns, daggers, kirpans and rods, and attacked a group of villagers sitting at a farm house in the village this evening and opened fire at them. They also attacked them with rods, daggers and kirpans, as a result of which six persons were injured. Those injured have been identified as Inderjit Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Baljit Singh, Avinderjit Singh, Ranjit Kaur and Sukhwinder Kaur of the village.
The villagers shared that a former Akali sarpanch of the village who had taken a piece of land on lease, allegedly refused to release it. This led to a dispute and the people from the other party attacked the family of the sarpanch when they were sitting at their farm house this evening and injured them. The other party tried to throw stones at the attackers but failed to prove a match for the latter.
SP(D) Pawanjit, DSP Payal Hemant Malhotra along with SHO Doraha Jaswinder Singh and police party reached the spot to record statements of the villagers. “A land dispute between the two parties is said to be the reason for the attack. Things would get clear once the statements of the injured are recorded,” said DSP Malhotra.
