Four booked for abetment to suicide

The Sudhar police has booked four persons, including two employees of a nationalised bank, for allegedly abetting a car driver of Jassowl village to commit suicide over a week ago.

While the parents of the deceased had cremated the body without seeking any action against anyone, the accused have now been booked under Section 108, 3 (5) of the BNS for abetment to suicide on the basis of a note found later from the belongings of the deceased, identified as Gurpal Singh.

The accused were identified as Baljinder Singh Mulli of Jassowal village, and Kuldeep Singh of Hira Bagh, besides two employees of a branch of a national bank at Jagraon, namely Vikas Kumar Chaursia and Nirmal Singh.

On March 31, Harbans had told the police that no one was responsible for his son’s death, after which the police had handed over the body to the family. It was only on Monday that the complainant approached the Sudhar police to seek action on the basis of a suicide note that was found during the cleaning of Gurpal’s room.

Purportedly scripted by Gurpal Singh on March 31, 2025, the suicide note suggested that Baljinder Singh Mulli and Kuldeep Singh were responsible for abetting him to commit suicide and bank employees Vikas Chaurasia and Nirmal Singh had forced him to sign a cheque worth Rs 4 lakh, besides taking his Aadhar Card, Pan Card and passport.

The police are yet to corroborate the facts and sequence of events leading to the alleged suicide of the deceased. Preliminary investigations revealed the deceased was the driver of a vehicle hired by the bank branch concerned at Jagraon. The investigating officer said no arrest was made, yet.
