Gauraksha Dal stages protest outside Bhiwani MLA’s house
Members of the Gauraksha Dal staged a sit-in protest outside the residence of Bhiwani MLA Ghanshyam Saraf, expressing their anger over the alleged failure of the local Municipal Council (MC) to provide support for the treatment and transportation of injured and sick animals. The protest was led by Sanjay Parmar, head of the Bhiwani Gauraksha Dal and saw participation from about ten group members.
The protestors alleged that numerous injured animals, including cows, were left to suffer and die on the streets due to the lack of timely medical assistance and transport facilities. They blamed the MC for its continued negligence in addressing the issue.
Parmar said that in 2019, an ambulance was donated by the local MP to the MC specifically for animal care. The ambulance service, operated with the support of the Gauraksha Dal, played a key role in rescuing and treating injured animals. However, around ten days ago, the MC suddenly withdrew the service without offering any reason.
According to Parmar, when the issue was raised with the officials, the MC claimed that the employees’ union had objected to animal rescue duties, stating that their assigned responsibilities were limited to sanitation and the disposal of dead animals.
The Gauraksha Dal leader, however, opposed this reasoning, stating that if the Municipal Council can issue tenders for catching monkeys, managing stray bulls, or vaccinating stray dogs against rabies, it should also take responsibility for providing treatment and care to sick and injured animals, particularly cows.
The group demanded immediate action against the officials responsible for discontinuing the ambulance service and urged the MC to reinstate the animal medical facilities without delay. The protestors warned that if their demands were not met soon, the sit-in will escalate into an indefinite fast unto death.
