Dustbins distributed to shopkeepers, street vendors for waste segregation
In a bid to enhance sanitation and promote responsible waste disposal, the Yamunanagar-Jagadhri Municipal Corporation (YJMC) has distributed dustbins to shopkeepers and street vendors across the twin cities of Yamunanagar and Jagadhri. The initiative aims to encourage segregation of waste at source, helping maintain a clean and beautiful environment.
The distribution drive, which provided two types of dustbins—green for wet waste and blue for dry waste—was formally launched by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Parth Gupta at a programme held at Agrasen Chowk near the railway station in Yamunanagar. On the occasion, he urged shopkeepers and vendors to avoid open dumping and instead use the designated bins for waste segregation.
“I appeal to all vendors and shopkeepers to collect dry garbage in the blue dustbin and wet garbage in the green one. They should also ensure the waste is handed over to MCYJ garbage collection vehicles instead of throwing it in the open,” said the DC.
He also inspected the door-to-door garbage collection system and was informed by shopkeepers that the garbage vehicles arrive every morning to collect waste. Gupta further advised citizens to prepare compost using kitchen waste to reduce environmental impact.
During the event, he instructed MCYJ officials to take strict action against individuals found dumping garbage in public spaces. Acting on the directions of Municipal Commissioner Ayush Sinha, the corporation staff distributed green and blue dustbins to shopkeepers and vendors on Railway Road and Radaur Road as well.
The drive also received support from several social organisations, including Har Maidan Fateh and Sneh Seva Trust.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Dheeraj Kumar urged the public to actively cooperate with the YJMC in the ongoing Swachh Yamunanagar-Jagadhri campaign. He warned that shopkeepers found throwing garbage in the open will be issued challans as per municipal rules.
Deputy Municipal Commissioner Arun Bhargav, Chief Sanitary Inspector Sunil Dutt and officials including Avinash Singla, Pooja Aggarwal, Mukta, Sahaj Duggal, Mamta Sain, Meenu Chaswal, Pradeep Dahiya and Sushil were also present at the event.
