APS Damana inaugurates 10M Shooting Range

JAMMU, Apr 8: Army Public School (APS) Damana inaugurated the ‘Shimani Choudhary 10M Shooting Range’ within its premises today. The newly constructed shooting range honours alumna and Gold Medalist, Shimani Choudhary, who won the 24th All India Kumar Surendra Singh Shooting Championship in 2022. The initiative provides students with a platform to excel in shooting sports.
The ceremony was attended by Brigadier Vivek Puri, Commander of Chenab Brigade and Chairman of APS Damana, as the chief guest. Surinder Singh Sodhi, President of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifle Association (JKRA), graced the event as the guest of honour, while other dignitaries included Sharat Chander (DySP), Governing Body Member & CEO JKRA, and Arun Mansotra, Treasurer JKRA.
Kuldeep Singh Jamwal, Founder Member & Chairman of JKRA, also attended the event and shared heartfelt memories of his father, Lieutenant Colonel SDS Jamwal, a hero of the Zojila Battle in 1948. He recounted a memorable moment from the 1971 war, when General Zoro Bakshi hosted a lunch for the officers and their families in Pakistan.
Shimani Choudhary, the special guest, demonstrated her marksmanship skills at the new range. Principal Pushpinder Kaur emphasized the importance of safe gun handling and shared her vision of preparing students to represent India on global platforms, including the Olympics.
