Caught with illegal sand, drivers overturn trucks ‘in bid to kill accompanying cops’

Drivers of four trucks loaded with illegally mined sand allegedly overturned their trucks in the fields in a village of Yamunanagar district early morning on Tuesday. They did so in an attempt to kill the policemen who had caught the trucks and were sitting inside those vehicles to take those to the weighbridge, says the FIR in the case.

But before the trucks overturned, all four drivers managed to jump outside. A Home Guards jawan, Ashok, got stuck in a truck and sustained injuries. All four trucks were allegedly transporting sand illegally without e-transit passes.

Narinder Kumar, incharge of police post at Gumthala village of Yamunanagar district, told the police that he along with other staff members was on patrolling duty in the area last night. Four trucks loaded with sand came from Gumthala village to go towards Kandrauli village.

They stopped all four trucks to check the documents related to mining mineral (sand) loaded in the truck, but the drivers failed to produce e-transit passes and other required documents.

He said that on his demand, two vehicles of Dial 112 were sent to the spot immediately to take the trucks to Radaur town for getting their weight done at the weighbridge. He added that one vehicle of Dial 112 was moving behind the trucks and another vehicle of Dial 112 was in front of the trucks. He said that one policeman each was also made to sit in every truck to prevent the truck drivers from driving away the vehicles.

Kumar said that when the trucks reached near Kandrauli village, a car came there and the occupants of the car asked the truck drivers to overturn their trucks in the agriculture fields, so that the police could not get them weighed at the weighbridge.

“Soon, the truck drivers turned their trucks towards the fields and overturned the vehicles. A Home Guards jawan was stuck in a truck and sustained injuries,” Narinder Kumar told the police.

Investigating officer of the case Satnam Singh said the police team caught a truck driver, identified as Pradeep, and he would be produced in court tomorrow.

On the complaint of Narinder Kumar, a case was registered against four persons Pradeep, Vinod, Rahul and Sukha under Sections 109 (1), 115, 121 (1), 132 and 303 of the BNS at Jathlana police station today.
