Congress has always insulted Sardar Patel: BJP slams CWC resolution
The ruling BJP on Tuesday dubbed the Congress Working Committee’s resolution on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel as a smokescreen to conceal its contempt for the stalwart. Reacting to a resolution passed by a CWC meeting in Ahmedabad to emulate the life principles of Sardar Patel, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, speaking for BJP, said, “The Congress insulted Sardar Patel before and after Independence. It was always engaged in undermining the legacy of leaders who shared the same stature as Pt Jawaharlal Nehru. The tallest in this league were Sardar Patel and Dr BR Ambedkar.” Meghwal said it had been the Congress culture to be disrespectful of Sardar Patel.
The minister was speaking after the extended CWC in Ahmedabad passed a resolution that said, “Once again, the Congress is determined to follow the life principles of Sardar Patel to defeat the forces of animosity and division as well as exposing the fake news factory of these elements.”
Recalling Maniben Patel’s book on Nehru-Patel ties, Meghwal said, “The Congress should have at least read Maniben Patel’s book, which documents how the party disparaged Sardar Patel.”
Meghwal asked if the Congress respected Sardar Patel, why did its leaders not find it fit to pay tributes at the Statue of Unity, built by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Gujarat’s Kevadia. Congress leaders did not pay their respects at the Sardar Patel memorial because they never respected Sardar Patel, allegedly due to Jawaharlal Nehru’s dislike for him. Meghwal also attacked Rahul Gandhi for his remarks that the Constitution of India is one thousand years old.
“The Congress disrespected Baba Saheb when he was alive. Their leaders are doing the same today,” Meghwal said.
