Mumbai News: Netizen Highlights Ocean Trash, Marine Debris Deposited At Trombay Jetty Since Past 2 Months; BMC Replies

Mumbai: A Mumbai resident has raised concerns about the debris left after the removal of the mangrove forest at Trombay Jetty. In a post on X, the user (@dharmeshbarai) shared a photo of the location and stated that the debris has been sitting there for two months without being cleared by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

In the post, he mentioned that the Mangrove Foundation of Maharashtra helped remove ocean trash and marine debris, but that roughly half of the debris, around 10 truckloads, has still not been collected. He urged the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to remove the debris as soon as possible.

In the recent post on X, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation responded while saying "Thank you for bringing this complaint to our attention. We have forwarded your complaint to the relevant department."

Another user criticised the BMC, asking, "Have you no shame? Is digging roads just to profit from tenders your only aim?" They added, "Please direct them to do their job properly. Do something meaningful for once. It's an utter shame. You're creating a hell for the next generation."

Maharashtra Forest Minister Ganesh Naik Inspects Mangrove Conservation Efforts

The Forest Minister and Palghar District Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik carried out an inspection on Saturday, encompassing the Biodiversity Centre Jetty in Airoli to the Jetty in Belapur, as part of the state government's 100-day action agenda. During the tour, the Guardian Minister Naik reviewed mangrove conservation efforts.

“The Biodiversity Center attracts millions of tourists annually, and efforts have been made to improve visitor facilities. The Forest Department has also worked to maintain an environment conducive to flamingos, whose population has grown significantly from a few thousand to approximately 1.5 lakh (150,000),” quoted by the minister as per the report.
