Mobile Phone Exports Cross Rs 2 Lakh Crore In FY25, iPhones Lead The Charge, Says Vaishnaw

In the financial year 2024-25, India’s mobile phone exports exceeded Rs 2 lakh crore, marking a significant milestone for the country’s electronics sector. Notably, shipments of iPhones alone accounted for approximately Rs 1.5 lakh crore of this total, said Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday.

Highlighting the remarkable growth, the minister noted that smartphone exports witnessed a significant increase of 54 per cent compared to the previous fiscal year, 2023-24. This surge not only reflects the rising global demand for Indian-made smartphones but also underscores India’s growing prominence in the global electronics supply chain.

“Smartphone exports crossed Rs 2 lakh crore in the financial year 2024-25. It is now among the top exported goods out of India. About Rs 1.5 lakh crore worth of iPhones were exported,” Vaishnaw remarked. He further stressed the transformation within the country’s electronics manufacturing landscape, revealing that production capacity has expanded more than fivefold, while exports have surged over six times in the past decade.

Passive Component Scheme

In addition to these achievements, the minister announced the introduction of a draft notification for a new passive component scheme. This scheme is aimed at further boosting the electronics sector and will be open for public consultation for approximately two weeks, allowing stakeholders to provide feedback and suggestions.

Meanwhile, mobile phone exports from India surged to an impressive Rs 1.75 trillion (approximately $21 billion) in the first 11 months of the 2024-25 financial year, surpassing the projected target set by Vaishnaw. The minister had initially estimated that exports would reach around $20 billion, making this achievement particularly noteworthy with an entire month still remaining in the fiscal year. This remarkable growth represents a 54 per cent increase compared to smartphone exports during the same period in the previous financial year, according to data from the India Cellular & Electronics Association.
