‘Huge victory for states’: Stalin welcomes SC verdict against Governor Ravi

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K.Stalin on Tuesday welcomed the Supreme Court's verdict on the issue of Governor R.N. Ravi's pending assent to bills. Hailing it as “historic”, Stalin called the judgement a “huge victory for the states.”
Reading out a statement in the assembly during the zero hour, Stalin said, “A few moments ago, our government received a historic judgment from the Supreme Court. This order is not only for Tamil Nadu, but a huge victory for all states in India.”
Calling it a vindication of federalism, state autonomy and Dravidian politics, he repeated his new slogan of the DMK saying, “Tamil Nadu will fight. Tamil Nadu will win.”
Tamil Nadu had moved the top court against the governor for withholding 10 bills passed in the state assembly.
Terming the governor’s reservation of 10 bills for the President’s assent as “illegal and liable to be set aside”, the court said the bills were deemed to have been assented by the governor on the date when they were represented.
“The governor cannot act bonafide,” the court observed.
The Stalin government has been at loggerheads with the governor since it came to power in 2021. Be it on the appointment of vice-chancellors to the universities or delivering his address in the assembly, Ravi has always stirred controversy.
Be it the Sanatana Dharma issue, calling Tamil Nadu Thamilagam, sending out the invitation for Pongal festival celebration without the Tamil Nadu emblem, walking out of the assembly in a huff and omitting a few portions in the governor’s address in the assembly and omitting the word ‘Dravidam’ in the Tamil anthem, Ravi had been waging a bitter fight with the state government.
