Take a look at all the releases coming up this week:

OTT RELEASES

Black Mirror: Season 7

Streaming platform: Netflix

Release date: April 10

Netflix's hugely popular dystopian sci-fi series, helmed by Charlie Brooker, will return with six new stories designed to both entertain and terrify, including the much-awaited sequel to season 4's 'USS Callister'. This season showcases a blend of genres and styles, with two (almost) feature-length episodes in the mix, Brooker revealed at a Netflix festival last September.

Chhaava

Streaming platform: Netflix

Release date: April 11

Laxman Utekar's loud, high-octane period drama about the Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, powerfully enacted by Vicky Kaushal, alongside Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna, comes to OTT screens following a successful theatrical run. Reports say that it is now the seventh biggest hit in Indian cinematic history, and well on its way to joining the 600-crore club.

Doctor Who: Season 2

Streaming platform: JioHotstar

Release date: April 12

Acting maverick Ncuti Gatwa reprises his role as the Fifteenth Doctor, taking on a robot revolution in the 8-episode season helmed by Russell T. Davies. This season also features a cool, and slightly-terrifying cameo by Alan Cumming's Mr. Ring-a-Ding. Despite the previous season being a bit average in quality, it featured excellent performances that will hopefully be complemented by better writing this season.

Pravinkoodu Shappu

Streaming platform: SonyLIV

Release date: April 11

Pravinkoodu Shappu follows the murder investigation of a toddy shop owner. On the night after locking up his shop, eleven people gathered to drink and play cards, making SI Santhosh’s work particularly challenging as he has one too many murder suspects on the board. Though the premise of the film is dark and thriller-like, the infusion of dark comedy in the film gives it a gentler pace. Directed by Sreeraj Sreenivasan, the film stars Soubin Shahir, Basil Joseph and Chemban Vinod Jose, with Chandini Sreedharan, and Shivajith.

Chhorii 2

Streaming platform: Amazon Prime Video

Release date: April 11

Set seven years after the events of Chhorii, Sakshi must fight to save her daughter who has been taken away by an evil supernatural force as part of an age-old sacrificial ritual by a menacing cult. Directed by Vishal Furia, the series horror flick stars Nushrratt Bharuccha, Soha Ali Khan, Gashmeer Mahajani, Saurabh Goyal, and Pallavi Ajay.

THEATRE RELEASES

Bazooka

Release date: April 10

This Malayalam action-thriller, with Mammootty and Gautham V. Menon in the lead roles, promises some intense performances. The plot involves a businessman and a policeman joining forces to catch a psychopath. Touted as Malayalam cinema's first “game thriller”, the film promises a spectacle like no other.

Alappuzha Gymkhana

Release date: April 10

With hopes of entering college with a sports quota after failing their Class 12 exams, a group of boys enlist for boxing lessons that take them beyond the mere school ground playing field and into the gruesome world of punches. Directed by Khalid Rahman, the film stars Naslen K. Gafoor, Lukman Avaran, Ganapathi S. Poduval, Sandeep Pradeep, and Anagha Ravi.

Maranamass

Release date: April 10

This Malayalam dark comedy, which instantly turned heads for its quirky promotional style using “gen alpha” slang, features Basil Joseph, Suresh Krishna, and Anishma Anilkumar in the lead roles. The plot, which seems intentionally confusing, is a comedic take on serial killings, with some social commentary.

Good Bad Ugly

Release date: April 10

This quirky action-comedy flick, directed by Adhik Ramachandran, sees the iconic duo Ajith Kumar and Trisha reunite on-screen for the 6th time, alongside Prabhu, Prasanna, Naslen and Jackie Shroff. Excited fans even erected a colossally huge cutout of the actor, reportedly more than 200 feet tall, to celebrate the film's release.

Jaat

Release date: April 10

This action-drama promises stellar performances from its unique cast of Randeep Hooda, Sunny Deol, Saiyami Kher, and Regina Cassandra. Set to clash with the release of Good Bad Ugly, the film revolves around a travelling stranger locking horns with a ruthless criminal named Ranatunga, and the subsequent fight for justice.

Warfare

Release date: April 11

Set against the backdrop of the Iraq War in 2006, Warfare tells the story of a U.S. Navy SEALs surveillance operative gone wrong as all hell breaks loose on the soldiers. Directed by Alex Garland and Ray Mendoza, whose experience the film is based on, the ensemble cast includes D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Will Poulter, Cosmo Jarvis, Kit Connor, and Finn Bennett.
