Mumbai News: BMC To Temporarily Suspend Water Billing Services For 'AQUA' System Upgrade From April 9 To 15
Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced that all water billing-related services will be temporarily suspended for six days as it undertakes a major upgrade of its ‘AQUA’ billing system. The shutdown will begin at 6 pm on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, and services are expected to resume by 9 am on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.
During this period, citizens will be unable to make water bill payments either online or in person at BMC’s civic facilitation centers. Additionally, all other related services, including bill queries and payment confirmations, will also be unavailable. The temporary suspension applies to all digital and physical platforms operated by the BMC’s Water Department.
The reason for this planned downtime is the migration of data from the current AQUA system to a more secure and efficient cloud-based server, reported Lokmat Times. The move is part of BMC’s broader effort to enhance the performance, reliability and scalability of the water billing infrastructure, ensuring it is better equipped to handle future demands and digital integration.

By transitioning to a cloud-based system, the BMC hopes to offer faster service, reduce technical glitches and strengthen data security.
The civic body has appealed to Mumbai residents to cooperate and bear with the inconvenience during the service blackout. Officials have assured citizens that the new system will result in a smoother and more efficient billing process once the upgrade is complete.
To avoid disruption, citizens are encouraged to clear any pending water bills before the downtime begins on April 9. The BMC has not indicated any penalties or late fees for delays caused during this period but recommends settling dues in advance to avoid confusion once the services resume.
This upgrade is a major step in BMC’s ongoing digital transformation initiatives aimed at modernizing civic services. Once operational, the revamped AQUA system is expected to provide users with a more seamless, transparent, and secure experience when managing their water bills. For updates, citizens can visit the official BMC website or follow its social media channels.
