Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was the former Miss World in 1994. With confidence up her sleeves, she has always deftly handles any question thrown her way. After winning the pageant, Aishwarya Rai established herself in the film industry. She is one of the few actresses who made to fame at international cinema stage and worked on few Hollywood projects as well.

Recognised globally, Rai has appeared at the Oprah Winfrey talk show in 2005. A highly regarded talk show host, Winfrey got famous with the The Oprah Winfrey Show that aired for good 25 seasons. During the chat, Rai served the host with witty answers that later converted into viral video clips. During the interview she subtly broke stereotypes and stigmas surrounding her country and explained the essence of Indian culture in subtle yet strong manner.

During the show, Winfrey quizzed her about the Indian notions of the West and more. Amongst the several questions she once asked her about the idea of public display of affection and how the nation takes it. To this Aishwarya quickly said, “It’s not something commonly seen. People do kiss, but it’s more of a private expression, not something you’d see on street corners. Art reflects life, and that’s how it’s portrayed in our cinema.”

Further, when asked about take on premarital sex and if its common in India or not, Rai responded, ““Broadly speaking, it isn’t the good thing to do.”

Apart from this, the actress also highlighted the essence of hospitality in Indians, family bonds and values and the importance of living in a community.

Later, the host asked the ‘Devdas’ actress about the misconceptions individuals have about Indians. Aishwarya Rai shared how she often faced the question, “Did you study abroad to learn the language?” She was taken aback by this assumption, saying, “Why would people think that we don’t study English? That really shocked me.”

Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan got married in 2007 and became parents to Aaradhya Bachchan in 2011. After marriage, as a couple, both actors appeared for another season of the chat show with Oprah when once again their witty replies won hearts.
