Manappuram heist: Key accused sent to jail

Sambalpur: Subodh Singh, 28, the prime accused in the high-profile armed robbery at the Manappuram Gold Loan branch at Budharaja in Sambalpur, was sent to judicial custody after completing a 10-day police remand, Monday.
Earlier in the day, Singh was taken for a mandatory medical examination under tight security at the district headquarters hospital. He was later produced before the SDJM court, which remanded him to judicial custody. He was then taken to the local sub-jail.
During his stay in police custody, Singh was thoroughly questioned in connection with the daylight robbery, which occurred January 3 at the Manappuram branch in one of the City’s busiest areas. The robbers, reportedly carrying firearms, looted approximately 30 kg gold and over Rs 4.5 lakh cash before fleeing the scene.
According to police sources, Singh provided several crucial leads during interrogation, shedding light on other criminal cases he is allegedly linked to, as well as revealing potential accomplices involved in the gold heist.
So far, Sambalpur police have arrested four persons, including Singh, in connection with the robbery. However, the stolen gold and cash have yet to be recovered.
