Meet actress whose debut film was a super flop, yet to give any hit, her name is…, debut film was…, not Pooja Hegde
Every year, a dozen fresh faces enter Bollywood with the hope and belief of captivating audiences with their performance on the big screen. Many actresses who have bagged the titles of beauty pageants are also seen paving the way to successful acting careers like Priyanka Chopra, Lara Dutta, and Sushmita Sen. Backed by big banners, glamorous red carpets, and massive media attention, these newcomers often begin their journey with grand debuts, imagining a future of superstardom. But this industry is extremely unpredictable and not every fairytale has a happy ending.
One such actress who started her journey with sky-high expectations with her Bollywood debut after winning the Miss World title was none other than Manushi Chillar. She made her entry with the 2022 historical drama Samrat Prithviraj opposite the superhit star Akshay Kumar. But despite a staggering ₹220 crore budget, the film underperformed at the box office, collecting just ₹68.25 crore in India.
Followed by her first film, The Great Indian Family- her second film, where she starred opposite Vicky Kaushal also failed to make a mark. Made on a ₹40 crore budget, the film managed to earn only ₹5 crore domestically. The film didn’t perform well commercially or otherwise.
In 2024, she explored South Indian cinema with Operation Valentine alongside Varun Tej, but it too failed to impress, grossing only ₹8 crore. That same year, she starred in Bade Miyan Chote Miyan—an action-packed film with a ₹350 crore budget featuring stars like Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff. Unfortunately, the film collected only ₹51 crore, marking yet another setback.
Despite the rocky start, Disha is now looking ahead and is all set to star in Tehran, a high-stakes geopolitical thriller starring John Abraham. With a powerful storyline rooted in real events, based on the Russia-Ukraine war. This might just be the turning point her career needs.
