JEE Aspirants Claim They Missed Entrance Exam Due To Pawan Kalyan's Convoy, Dy CM Orders Probe

Thirty students appearing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) in Andhra Pradesh's Vishakhaptnam have claimed that they missed their engineering entrance exam after being late due to a convoy of Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan.

Notably, the Deputy CM holds the crucial science and technology portfolio.

The students claimed that the traffic was blocked for the convoy due to which they reached late to their examination centre. All 30 students were turned away from the exam hall gate and were not allowed to sit for the exam, they added, reported NDTV.

The incidents have sparked outrage among parents who are concerned about the long-term impact on their children's academic future.

Concerned Parents

B Kalavathi, mother of one of the students, claimed that her son could not reach the examination centre on time due to restrictions imposed for Kalyan's convoy.

"We were stuck in traffic. It was halted because Kalyan was on his way to Araku," Kalavathi said, reported PTI.

Another parent said he urged the Deputy CM to consider rescheduling the exam for the affected students.

Police Respond

The city police have, however, claimed that students were expected to reach the centre by 7 am and had these 30 students been on time, there was no  question of their being held up by traffic.

"As per the admit card of the above-mentioned examinations, every candidate has to report at 07:00 am and the gate of the examination centre will be closed at 8:30 am," read a rough translation of a post by the city cops on X.

Kalyan passed through the said junction at 8:41 am, the police said, adding, "Therefore, it is clear that the movement of the Deputy CM through that area at 8:41 AM has nothing to do with the late arrival of the students who were supposed to report at 7 am."

Pawan Kalyan Orders Probe

Meanwhile, the actor-turned-politician has ordered a probe into the claims by the students. He directed the Vishakhapatnam police to investigate various aspects, including how long traffic was halted for the convoy and the traffic conditions on the route to the exam centre when students were on their way.

He also directed the police to check whether traffic was controlled on the service roads, reported News18.
