Teachers in the AI era

Sir,
The article “Shifting Role of Teachers in the Age of AI” (March 6) insightfully highlights how artificial intelligence is transforming education. While AI offers personalized learning and data-driven insights, it cannot replace the human touch that teachers bring—empathy, ethical guidance, and critical thinking.
Rather than fearing AI, educators should embrace it as a tool to enhance their roles. By automating administrative tasks and tailoring lessons to individual needs, AI allows teachers to focus on mentorship, creativity, and deeper engagement. However, concerns about over-reliance on AI and academic dishonesty must be addressed with ethical guidelines and balanced integration.
Teachers of the future must be adept at both pedagogy and technology, ensuring students develop critical skills to navigate an unpredictable world. AI should complement—not replace—educators in shaping well-rounded, independent thinkers. The classroom of tomorrow must blend innovation with human wisdom.
