A 19-year-old accused of attempted murder, Keshav Sharma, tried escaping from a police jeep in Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh with the excuse of using a toilet. He got down from the vehicle and ran toward the main road. A cop opened the jeep door for him on his request to pee, only to result in a dramatic chase later. As the accused fled, the cops ran behind him and managed to re-arrest him.

The incident was recorded on a CCTV camera installed at the police station. It showed Sharma briefly escaping police custody with a toilet excuse.

An X page named 'Lalluram_news' posted the clip online, suggesting the incident has raised questions about the police's security system.

"In Uttar Pradesh's Hamirpur district, a prisoner escaped from a police vehicle on the pretext of going to the toilet. However, the police acted swiftly and arrested him again. This incident has raised questions on the security system of the police (translated)", the news portal captioned the footage.

The video opened with the murder accused, dressed in a black t-shirt and denim pants, stepping out of the police vehicle and running toward the exit gate. He runs in front of a uniformed cop, who opens the jeep door and allows him to use the toilet. As he flees, one of his footwear falls off. Sharma doesn't stop. He continues at full speed to escape the cops.

A few cops chase him soon after learning that the accused has fled. Hamirpur cops arrest him sooner.

According to local media reports, Sharma was under police custody after trying to kill an elderly man over an old rivalry.
