Ghumarwin summer festival kicks off
The five-day state-level summer festival was inaugurated by Rajesh Dharmani, the Technical Education Minister, at Ghumarwin in Bilaspur district yesterday. Dharmani stated the Congress government is committed to the uniform development of the state under the leadership of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
The minister announced the Chief Minister had green-lit the establishment of a “University of Digital Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Skill and Vocational Studies” in the Ghumarwin area. He said it would be the first digital university in the state, aimed at equipping the youth with modern technology, innovative practices, start-up culture and industry-relevant skills. Over Rs 500 crore would be allocated for the university’s establishment.
Earlier, Dharmani honoured three local freedom fighters — Sahaj Ram Sharma, Shankar Das Verma and Bhag Singh. He highlighted the Ghumarwin Summer Festival, now in its 40th year, has grown in prominence over time. He expressed gratitude to CM Sukhu for upgrading the event to a state-level festival.
As part of ongoing improvements, Dharmani announced a beautification project for the festival grounds along Seer Khad, with an investment of Rs 1.5 crore. In addition, an exit road is being constructed from the bus stand to enhance traffic flow in the town, with Rs 20 lakh allocated for the construction of a road from Seer Khud Bridge to the festival grounds.
District Congress president Anjana Dhiman, Municipal Council chairperson Rita Sehgal, APMC chairman Satpal, Himuda member Jitendra Chandel, vice-president Shyam Sharma and several local councillors and officials were also present at the event.
