Eye surgeon wins top honour
Dr Gitanjli Sood, a renowned eye surgeon from Himachal Pradesh, was awarded the first prize at the prestigious 40th Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) Congress held in New Delhi. Known for her expertise in retina surgery, Dr. Sood has earned recognition for her exceptional work in the field of ophthalmology.
She completed her MBBS from Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla, and pursued MS in Ophthalmology at UCMS-GTB Hospital, New Delhi, where she earned a Gold Medal for her academic excellence. Her skills span across cataract surgeries, cornea, glaucoma, squint, neuro-ophthalmology, retina, uvea and emergency eye care.
Dr Sood further specialised in Surgical Retina at Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai, one of India’s premier eye hospitals. Post fellowship, she worked at AIIMS New Delhi and received the Dr. M.C. Luthra Gold Medal for best paper publication. Her achievements also include the prestigious FICO-Merit Award from the International Ophthalmology Council and FAICO (Retina) from the All India Ophthalmological Society. Currently, she serves at SM EYE Institute in Kangra.
