Isha Ambani, the only daughter of billionaire Mukesh Ambani, and Nita Ambani, has carved her own niche as an enterprising young businesswoman, who is slowly but surely emerging from her illustrious father’s gigantic shadow. Isha Ambani is credited with the rapid expansion of Reliance Retail, including its e-commerce business Ajio and beauty platform Tira, but what does her father, Mukesh Ambani have to say about Isha’s role and impact in Reliance Industries?

‘She’s the boss’

Speaking at the Express Awards for Women Entrepreneurship in Mumbai on Saturday, Mukesh Ambani, Asia’s richest man, said Isha Ambani was his “boss in office”. “I already have a boss in office. Isha grades my performance at the meetings. Sometimes, she gives me D ranking. In fact, she is perpetually grading me,” the proud father told audience, according to a report by the Financial Express.

Talking about Isha’s kind nature, Mukesh Ambani said his daughter believes it is “no longer survival of the fittest but survival of the kindest”.

‘Nita, Isha opened my mind’

Mukesh Ambani further credited his wife, Nita Ambani, and his daughter, Isha Ambani, for opening his mind about the growing impact of women in business. The Reliance Industries Chairman said he was a “late bloomer” when it comes to appreciating the role of women in business, “but Isha and Nita have opened my mind in the last decade”.

Reliance pushing women in leadership roles

The billionaire industrialist also talked about the growing role of women in Reliance, saying that the oil-to-telecom conglomerate is “pushing women to the forefront”.

Ambani noted that most of Reliance Industries’ companies, hospitals, the Reliance Foundation and the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC), have women leaders at the helm, adding that Reliance Foundation and NMACC are helmed by Nita Ambani.

Asked about advice for women entrepreneurs, Mukesh Ambani emphasized the need for having a positive mindset. “The single most important thing is to win in the mind no matter who you are. You just have to go for it. You will ultimately be there,” he said.

Mukesh Ambani, the Chairman of India’s most valuable domestic firm, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), is the richest man in Asia, with a net worth of $91.3 billion, as of April 6, 2025, according to Forbes Real Time Billionaires List.

Isha Ambani, his only daughter, heads Reliance Retail Ventures Limited, RIL’s retail arm, as its Managing Director. The 32-year-old businesswoman also sits on the board of several Reliance Industries companies, including Reliance Retail Ventures, Reliance Jio Intercomm, and the Reliance Foundation.
