7 Patients Die After Treatment By 'Fake' Cardiologist At Missionary Hospital In MP, NHRC Launches Probe
Seven people have lost their lives after they were treated by a fake cardiologist at a missionary hospital in the Damoh district of Madhya Pradesh. Following the incident that came to light, the NHRC has decided to launch an investigation into the matter, officials said on Sunday.
NHRC member Priyank Kanoongo announced that a team of the National Human Rights Commission will camp in Damoh from April 7 to 9 to investigate the matter.
According to PTI, a complaint filed by a local with the NHRC confirmed that the fake cardiologist working at the hospital, identified as 'Dr N John Camm', was claimed to be an educated and trained professional from abroad.
But surprisingly, the complainant disclosed that the real name of the fake cardiologist is Narendra Vikramaditya Yadav, who misused the name of a UK's prominent cardiologist, Professor John Camm, resulting in the deaths of seven people after the wrong treatment.
However, the officials of Mission Hospital could not be contacted on the issue.
A complaint has alleged that a missionary hospital in Damoh, which is empanelled under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Yojana, has misused government funds. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has ordered an inquiry into the matter, according to officials.
NHRC To Investigate
Highlighting the incident in a post on X on Friday, Kanoongo stated that an ultimate death case of seven individuals has surfaced from a missionary hospital in Damoh, where a fake doctor was operating for heart disease treatment.
"The investigation team of the National Human Rights Commission, constituted on my orders to investigate the case will camp in Damoh from 7th April to 9th April and investigate. If any victim or any other person wants to provide information related to the case, they can meet the investigation team in Damoh," Kanoongo said on X.
The investigation will cover all entities and individuals named in the complaint, including administrative officials, he added.
The original complaint, filed by Deepak Tiwari from Jabalpur Naka, states that during January and February this year, several patients died due to the malpractice of an unauthorised doctor in the hospital's cardiology department.
The complaint said that 'Dr N John Camm' treated people in the hospital's cardiology department in the last one-and-a-half months. He reportedly used the fake identity while treating cardiac patients, leading to deaths.
Tiwari also noted that the accused has a history of controversies and frequently changes locations to avoid scrutiny. Following reports of serious violations, Tiwari submitted a formal complaint to the NHRC, prompting the commission to launch a full-scale investigation.
Damoh District Collector Sudhir Kochar confirmed receiving the complaint and stated that an inquiry is currently underway. Action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation, he assured.
