Lack Of Hydrogen Filling Stations Will Mean The New Hyundai Nexo Won't Come Here
There are only two or three hydrogen filling stations in India and that means the new Hyundai Nexo fuel cell SUV won't come here. The Nexo in its previous generation avatar has been showcased in India while not coming while now the new generation version is more advanced along with having more range as well.
The Nexo is still the best selling fuel cell hydrogen car in the world while global sales have been in small but decent numbers. The new Nexo looks boxier, more SUV like and has the new design language of Hyundai. It is also wider and longer now. Inside, there is more space and technology similar to the Ioniq 5 EV with sustainable materials added in too.

Importantly, the new Nexo has a completely new powertrain while fuel efficiency has also been improved plus the range at 700km. The electric motor is now more powerful and the hydrogen tank capacity has also been increased a bit. In many markets, the main issue regarding adoption of cars like the Nexo is the lack of infrastructure supporting a car like this.
This technology is also expensive which limits the appeal of hydrogen cars. Global hydrogen car sales have seen a decline in 2024 even though China is the biggest market for them. It remains to be seen how the market turns out but the key to this would be the infrastructure as without that it would remain a minority in the overall auto sales.
