Safdarjung railway station: In a matter of good news for the residents of Delhi NCR, an old railway station of New Delhi is being developed on the lines of an airport. We all know that the residents of Delhi NCR, including New Delhi, Noida and Gurugram have been facing the issue of overcrowding at the two major railway stations of Delhi, namely the Anand Vihar Railway Station and the New Delhi Railway Station but here’s an update that will ease the worries of regular railways commuters.
In a recent update, New Delhi’s Safdarjung railway station is being modernised on the lines of an airport, which will have airport-like passenger utility and security services. For those unversed, the Safdarjung railway station presently serves only selected trains and is not being used for regular passengers trains, but reports have now quoted officials as saying that passenger services may soon start after the redevelopment of the railway station on modern lines.
World-class facilities at Safdarjung railway station
“The construction encompasses two distinct structures: a station building and an operational building. The station building’s completion is scheduled for this year, while both buildings, including the operational building, will be fully ready by mid-next year. A significant portion of the station building’s construction is already finished”, Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyaya, CPRO, Northern Railway was quoted saying in a report by Times of India.
“Once operational, passengers will experience world-class facilities similar to an airport, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free journey,” he added.
Security features at Safdarjung railway station
“CCTV cameras have been installed for security,” the officer added on the security at the railway station.
After the Safdarjung railway station is upgraded, modern facilities of shopping areas, restaurants, cafes, hotels, and multi-level parking will be available within the station complex, the report said.
The new station building of the Safdarjung railway station is being constructed at a cost of Rs 385 crore on over an area of 41,350 square metres where the entry/exit points for passengers have also been segregated. The new redevelopment at the Safdarjung railway station is notably a part of a broader vision of the government to reduce the load of Delhi’s two major railway stations, Anand Vihar Railway Station and the New Delhi Railway Station by shifting some passenger train operations here.
