Bad news for China, now its arch rival to buy destructive missile system from India, after BrahMos, to be deployed in…
After buying the supersonic BrahMos missile, the Philippines can make another defense agreement with India. According to the report, the Philippines can buy Akash surface-to-air missile (SAM) system from India this year. By buying the Akash missile system, the Philippines is trying to increase its strength in the South China Sea, which eventually result in a big concern for China.
The IDRW report states that this deal between India and the Philippines could be worth around $200 million. Earlier in 2022, the Philippines bought BrahMos missiles from India for $375 million. And now Manila is going to make another major arms deal with India.
It is not clear at the moment whether the Philippines is buying the Akash missile system for its navy, land or air, but this deal strengthens its growing strategic partnership with India amid growing tensions in the Indo-Pacific region. China was furious after the Philippines bought the BrahMos missile and the Philippines has deployed BrahMos missiles in the South China Sea to counter China. There is a deep dispute between the two countries in the South China Sea and the purpose behind the Philippines buying the Akash missile will also be to counter China.
DRDO has built Akash missile
India’s Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) have built the Akash missile system, which is a medium-range surface-to-air (SAM) system. It is designed to neutralize various aerial threats including fighter jets, cruise missiles and drones. It has a range of 25 kilometers and has the ability to destroy targets in the air up to a height of 18 kilometers with accuracy. Its speed is 2.5 Mach, that is, its speed is 2.5 times the speed of sound and it is capable of attacking targets at supersonic speed. It uses Rajendra radar, which is a 3D phased array radar and does both target detection and fire control.
