Hardik Pandya creates big record against LSG, becomes first captain to register fifer in IPL history
New Delhi: Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya delivered a captain’s performance, picking up five wickets against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their IPL 2025 clash at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Friday. In Match 16 of the tournament’s 18th season, Hardik dismissed Nicholas Pooran, Rishabh Pant, Aiden Markram, David Miller, and Akash Deep.
Hardik Pandya achieved his career-best T20 bowling figures of 5 for 36, surpassing his previous best of 4 for 16 against New Zealand in Ahmedabad earlier this year. This also marks a historic first in the tournament, as he is the first captain to take a five-wicket haul in IPL history.
Hardik Pandya trails Shane Warne in career IPL wickets as captain. Warne holds the record with 57 wickets, while Pandya has 30.
Lucknow Super Giants’ strong start, fueled by Mitchell Marsh’s quick 60 runs from 31 balls, was checked by Mumbai Indians after Vignesh Puthur’s dismissal of Marsh.
Hardik Pandya entered the bowling attack in the ninth over and quickly dismissed Nicholas Pooran and Rishabh Pant, removing two key players for Lucknow Super Giants.
During a mid-game interview, Lucknow Super Giants player David Miller commended Hardik Pandya’s bowling skills, noting his speed is often underestimated.
“He is a good bowler. He is a little bit quicker than you think. He has got good variations, he holds the length really really well. He bowled really well tonight. Hopefully, one of our bowlers could do the same,” said LSG batter David Miller during an interview at the mid-innings.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) scored 203 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Mitchell Marsh’s 60 and Aiden Markram’s 53 were key contributions to their total.
Rishabh Pant, captain of Lucknow Super Giants, had another poor performance in IPL 2025, managing only two runs from six deliveries. This marks his fourth consecutive low score in the tournament.
Speaking of this score, Miller said, “The feedback we got from the guys who batted for a while was it was slow and it stuck in the pitch. A good back of a length ball squatted a little.”
“Good wicket, but we will use those variations. No dew as of now but hope our bowlers execute on what we have been talking about in the last few days,” he added.
