Kaajal Shankhwaarr talks about working in KINK Season 2: Kiss, Ishq n Konnections

How has the response to your show KINK 2 been?

The response has been really nice; my fans and audiences are loving it. However, at times, I felt that certain things were not shown the way they actually occurred. The essence of the show feels very different. Even Nisha Yogini, who gave her hundred per cent, wasn’t shown the way she actually contributed. Some people who were deeply involved have been sidelined, while others are being portrayed as the heroes, especially the girls.

Can you share an instance where the portrayal differed from reality?

Recently, a scene was manipulated to show that I slapped someone. But what actually happened was that the other person pushed me first. They completely edited out the pushing part and just showed me hitting. I don’t know if they want to portray me as a vamp, but if that’s the case I’m okay with it.

How do you deal with such situations in the industry?

If an actor performs but doesn’t get their due, it’s extremely unfair. Meanwhile, people who aren’t performing are being shown in a good light. As actors, we have to be patient while speaking up. Otherwise, we’ll be completely erased on the editing table.

Do you think speaking up comes with risks in the industry?

Yes, I have faced backlash for being outspoken. I always raise my voice when I saw something wrong. I stand up for myself, my friends, my family and even people I don’t know, if I see them being manipulated. But in this industry, many producers boycott actors for speaking up.

How do you unwind after a hectic schedule?

I love spending time with my pets—I have an iguana and cats. Cooking and binge-watching shows also help me relax.

Tell us about your passion for painting…

Painting holds a special place in my heart. My style is Wabi-Sabi, and I love using sand and different fabrics in my work. It’s my way of enjoying time alone.

Which places are on your travel bucket list?

Europe and Monaco top my list. Traveling enhances your personality, expands your thinking, and introduces you to different cultures and people.

You are actively involved in social causes. Can you share more?

I do feed stray animals and support foster care shelters. I also contribute to an old-age home and ensure I regularly participate in charity work.

Have you considered working behind the camera?

Yes, direction is something I would love to explore. I have a clear vision and believe I haven’t yet received the work I truly deserve. I’m waiting for the right time to bring something bigger to the industry.

What’s one thing you never forget before leaving home?

I always kiss my pets before stepping out.

How do you balance your personal and professional life?

I am very punctual and systematic, so balancing my clinic and acting career comes naturally to me.

Describe your idea of a perfectly relaxing day…

Good food, watching TV, cuddling with my pets, and ending the day with ice cream—something I absolutely love!
