Minister Parvesh announces Rs 500-cr elevated road project

In a major push to strengthen Delhi’s infrastructure and resolve traffic bottlenecks in the city’s eastern region, Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Verma on Friday announced the construction of a six-km-long elevated road along Pusta in Sonia Vihar.

Estimated to cost Rs 500 crore, the elevated corridor will stretch from Nanak Sar Gurdwara T-Point to the Delhi-UP border near Tronica City, offering much-needed relief to commuters struggling with daily congestion.

The PWD will execute the project with necessary clearances from the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, Government of NCT of Delhi (GNCTD). The road, supported by pillars on both sides, will bypass traffic snarls on the ground and is aimed at improving connectivity between Delhi and neighbouring Uttar Pradesh. The project was greenlit after discussions with the Chief Minister.

Minister Parvesh Verma acknowledged the role of Cabinet Minister Kapil Mishra in pushing for the project, noting that Mishra had consistently raised the issue of traffic woes in Sonia Vihar.

“Due to the dense plantation in the area, a surface-level road wasn’t feasible. Hence, we decided on an elevated flyover. Once complete, this will enhance road infrastructure and greatly ease movement in the area,” the minister said.

Once constructed, the elevated road is expected to streamline vehicular movement between Delhi and Tronica City, reduce commute time and benefit thousands of local residents and daily commuters.

In a separate visit on Friday, Minister Parvesh Verma conducted an inspection of road improvement and beautification works in the Vishwas Nagar Assembly constituency. The minister reviewed the progress of ongoing works at Kadkadi Mod and Balko Society where debris removal and roadside beautification are underway.

The initiative comes in response to demands raised by local MLA OP Sharma to enhance civic amenities in the area. During the inspection, the minister noted issues of encroachment and directed officials to take immediate corrective action. He also emphasised the need to complete the beautification work at the earliest to improve the overall environment and quality of life for local residents.
