Awareness on relief, rescue measures

An awareness event was observed at Chamba on Friday to mark the 120th anniversary of the 1905 Kangra earthquake. The event aimed to educate people on relief and rescue measures during natural disasters like earthquakes.

Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania graced the occasion as the chief guest and flagged off the disaster awareness rally.

During the event, the District Disaster Management Authority, Fire Department, and Health Department conducted an awareness camp attended by trainee doctors from the Medical College, trainees from the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Chamba, self-help groups, students from the Government Polytechnic Institute, and various NGOs. The participants were provided with extensive information on disaster preparedness and risk mitigation.

During the drill, some students acted as disaster victims, simulating severe and minor injuries. Rescue teams provided them with first aid, demonstrating emergency response procedures. Through this exercise, the MBBS trainees learned that staying calm and taking strategic action can significantly enhance survival chances during a quake.
