Police crack down on criminals in Sector 25 colony

In the wake of two stabbing incidents in Sector 25, the police launched a major cordon and search operation in the area last evening. During the operation, police officials identified criminal elements in a colony and its adjoining areas.

According to the police, preventive action was taken against six known “bad characters” under Sections 126/170 of the BNSS and against 18 persons under Section 35 1B. “All suspects, including repeat offenders and recently released prisoners, were checked and verified,” said the police, emphasising that these operations will continue in the area to prevent further crimes.

Back-to-back stabbing incidents were reported in Sector 25 recently. Colony residents said police patrolling should be intensified and a long-term action plan was needed to prevent such crimes.

“We welcome the crackdown,” said a local shopkeeper Ravi Kumar, adding that “but we want to see permanent change, not just temporary action when things get out of hand.”

Aditya Thakur, a student of Panjab University, died after being stabbed multiple times during a musical even on the South Campus in Sector 25. The police arrested the main accused, a 17-year-old juvenile, in the case on Thursday and also recovered the murder weapon. “It feels like the authorities act only after someone has been seriously hurt,” said a student.

In another incident, Shubham and his friend were assaulted by a group of youths in the same Sector. Shubham accused Nitin, Koda, Jeet, Debu and three unidentified youths of attacking them with a sharp weapon. Both were admitted to the Government Super Speciality Hospital.

Youth held with illegal pistol

The police arrested a 20-year-old youth with a countrymade pistol and ammunition. Abhishek, a native of UP, was caught in a forest area along the Dhanas road in Sector 25.
