According to the report, a minor girl in the Auraiya district of Uttar Pradesh, along with a female relative (her aunt), on December 26, 2024 lodged a complaint accusing the minor’s grandfather, father, and uncle of sexual abuse. This report contained details about the incident but the names of the accused were not mentioned.

Readers should note that the higher judiciary has repeatedly made the observation that identities of rape victims can’t be disclosed by the media directly or indirectly. This includes revealing the names of their relatives. See the following TOI report, for instance:

Upon further investigation, we came across reports by Live Hindustan and Dainik Bhaskar covering the alleged crime. According to these articles, FIRs under several IPC sections, including the POCSO Act, had been registered and the three accused, the 60-year-old grandfather, 40-year-old father and 35-year-old uncle of the minor, were arrested.

According to the statement given by the victim to the police in the report, her parents had a fight about 10 to 12 years ago. Following this, she left for New Delhi with her mother. About four years ago, her father and uncle went to Delhi and took her back to their village. After a few months, her grandfather, father and uncle began sexually abusing her. Her mother had died about one and a half year back.

The report further states that on December 22, 2024, the trio attempted to kill the victim. She managed to escape and reached her aunt.

We also found a video-recorded statement by additional SP Alok Mishra on the Auraiya Police’s X handle speaking on this incident. He stated that a case had been registered against the accused under Sections 64 (F), 65 (1) and 232 (2) of the BNS and the accused were arrested by adding the relevant sections of the POCSO Act.

Alt News reached out to Auraiya additional SP Alok Mishra. He described this incident as old and said, “All the accused and the victim are Hindus and from the same family.” He also clarified that the viral communal claims were false.

To sum up, the incident of sexual abuse of a minor girl by her grandfather, father and uncle in Uttar Pradesh is actually from December 2024. All three accused and the victim are Hindus. Social media users have falsely claimed it to be a recent incident, accusing ‘The Lallantop’ of hiding the truth.
