Is Donald Trump Ending Dual Citizenship? Here Is A Fact-Check Of His Viral Truth Social Post
The Verdict [Fake]
U.S. President Donald Trump did not post any such statement on Truth Social. The screenshot has been fabricated.
What is the claim?
A viral image is circulating on social media along with the claim that it shows a Truth Social post by U.S. President Donald Trump stating that he is ending dual citizenship in the country under the Espionage Act.
The viral fake screenshot dated March 30, 2025, reads in all caps, "STARTING ON MONDAY, I AM ENDING DUAL CITIZENSHIP UNDER THE ESPIONAGE ACT AND ALL THESE TRAITORS WILL BE 'DENATURALIZED AND DEPORTED' TO THE COUNTRY THEY CAME FROM. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!! AMERICA IS FOR AMERICANS, NOT ALL THESE FOREIGNERS WHO HATE OUR GREAT COUNTRY AND DON'T EVEN PAY TAXES."
This viral screenshot has surfaced on multiple social media platforms, including Bluesky, Facebook, X, Threads, and Instagram. However, we found this is not a genuine post by Donald Trump on Truth Social. The viral image has been fabricated.
What are the facts?
We checked Trump's Truth Social account and found no such post by him indicating anything about ending dual citizenship in the U.S. (archived here).
We then checked Trump's Truth, a website that archives all his posts but did not find any such post (archived here). Subsequently, we checked Trump's official X account and found no statement about ending dual citizenship (archived here).
Furthermore, we conducted a Google search but found no news reports from credible media outlets about such a statement. If Trump had made such a statement about ending dual citizenship and deporting these individuals, it would have been reported by multiple news outlets.
Next, we noticed that the viral screenshot bears a timestamp of March 30, 2025, 11:00 a.m. Using this, we found a post on Trump's Truth Social account from the same date and time (archived here and here) on a different topic. This suggests the original post from March 30 was altered to add the text about dual citizenship.
