Campus notes: New session begins

Sanskriti KMV School welcomed the academic session 2025-26 with a sacred hawan ceremony. The rhythmic chanting of Vedic mantras and the holy fire created an aura of divinity, invoking blessings for the entire school community. Chander Mohan, president, Arya Shiksha Mandal, along with Neerja Mohan attended the event. Chander Mohan emphasised the importance of respecting parents, setting ambitious goals, and embracing knowledge as the foundation of success. He urged students to cultivate a visionary mindset and remain inquisitive about the latest advancements in science, particularly in transformative fields like AI. Principal Rachna Monga expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Chander Mohan and Neerja Mohan.

National Soft Tennis Championship

Jalandhar: Mayor World School team participated in the 18th Sub-Junior National Soft Tennis Championship-2025 held from March 27 to March 31 at the AIPL Dream city, Ludhiana. Orchestrated by the Soft Tennis Association, Punjab, and the Amateur Soft Tennis Federation of India, the event showcased the talent and dedication of young tennis athletes nationwide. The girls’ team of Ganeev Kaur and Agamya Popli secured third position. The boys’ team, featuring Kritagya Kaushal, Medhansh Thapar, Naman Sachdev, Siddid Popli and Vedant Sikka, got the second place. The school management extended its congratulations to all the participants and coach Gaurav Kumar.

Havan ceremony

Jalandhar: A havan ceremony was performed at Seth Hukam Chand SD Public Senior Secondary School to mark the beginning of the new academic session. Manager of the school Parveen Dada, Principal Priyanka Sharma along with all the staff members offered their prayers in the havan for the bright future of students. Principal Priyanka Sharma briefed all the teachers about the teaching methodologies for the new session and extended her best wishes to all.

New session commences

Jalandhar: Soldier Divine Public School, Silver Kunj, celebrated the commencement of the new academic session 2025-26. School branches welcomed the students in unique ways. Principal and staff members marked the entry of the students by applying tilak and praying to God for their bright future. The school was decorated with balloons. Apart from this, other activities like fun games, dance, singing, student preposition, musical chair activities and games related to body balancing etc were also included. Group Chairman Anil Chopra and vice-chairperson Sangeeta Chopra congratulated the students and all the staff members on the beginning of the new academic session.

Educational trip for civil engineers

Jalandhar: The Civil Engineering Department of Mehr Chand Polytechnic College conducted a three-day educational tour from March 27 to March 29 for its second year students. Principal Dr Jagroop Singh and Head of Department Dr Rajeev Bhatia, with Rajesh Kumar and Jaspal Singh as tour in-charges, the trip featured visits to the Canal Head Works in Ropar, a cement plant and an extensive exploration of an NHAI project construction site. The students studied the engineering behind head regulators, sluice gates and canal systems, gaining insights into hydraulic structures and their role in supporting agriculture and hydropower. The site visit underscored the importance of precision and durability in designing water infrastructure. Students also visited UltraTech Cement’s Bagheri plant in Himachal Pradesh, exploring the process of cement production from raw material, grinding to clinker formation and final packaging. The tour concluded at an NHAI project site, where students witnessed the construction of national highway infrastructure. Principal Dr Jagroop Singh appreciated the efforts made by the Department of Civil Engineering in bridging the gap between curriculum and industry by arranging such Industrial tours.

Research scholar awarded

Kapurthala: Vivek Mahajan, a research scholar of the Physics Department at IK Gujral Punjab Technical University, main campus, has been conferred with the best poster award from the Punjab Academy of Sciences for presenting a research paper at the 28th Punjab Science Congress. The event was hosted by Khalsa College, Amritsar. He got the second best poster presentation award at the workshop on ‘Computation and experimental techniques for advanced functional materials’, for presenting a research paper at the Department of Physics, Panjab University, Chandigarh. The third award was obtained for Best Oral Presentation at the 8th National Conference on Current Advances in Physical Sciences at Amritsar. All three papers were supervised by Prof Hitesh Sharma (Guide) and Dr Neha Kapila Sharma (co-author), and motivated by Dr Amit Sarin (Head of the Department). Vice-Chancellor IKG PTU Dr Susheel Mittal, congratulated Vivek Mahajan on his achievements.
